Here I have decided to talk about our little place here on Earth...our Chickens, Chicken Houses, my Family and the things we love. I hope you enjoy the photos I share...they help to define our lives.

Here's Mike and the Young'uns, Katie Jo & Michael..."Let's Go Draaaag Racing"

We are located just outside the town limits of Dillsboro, NC. Here we are among the Blue Ridge Mountains and Great Smoky Mountains. We were all born and raised here. We couldn't live in a more beautiful place.

I got started with Chickens in April 2001. I started out just wanting some good layers for brown eggs. One day while buying a goat from a local guy, i got my first look at some adorable little banties. He introduced me to a friend of his...who just happened to be Kin...and the madness began. I brought a pair of Brassyback Old English Bantys home with me. The next day, I went back for Silver Duckwing Old English. Within a few weeks I had some Porcelain D'uccles and Cochins and on, and on, and on!!! Well, you get the picture!!

"Rufus"

This place is so tiny it hardly can be called a farm...but what else would i call it considering all the critters?? If you continue down this page you will see one example of our chicken houses once it was completed. I hope you enjoy your visit.

If you were to visit us...it would be obvious that I love my Chickens...but what else do I love????

Below is some photos of the Chicken House Mike built November 2001. This house works real well for a pair of standard chickens but works best for up to 6 banties...that's per side...it's a duplex so it comfortably holds double that!!

The house will have a fenced yard around three sides of it. This side will be to the outside of the fence so i can simply walk up, lift the roof panels and gather the eggs. This picture above was taken shortly after it was painted. I may even do some decorative painting on the front!!??!! Below is a picture that shows how the house is 2 sided like a duplex.

There is a doorway on both ends to house 2 different breeds. There are 2 roof panel doors that you can lift one half at a time or together as one with the use of a latch. This photo above shows the unit before it was painted and before the roost poles went in. The 3 pieces of plywood was left over from a flooring job. The tongue and groove wood we used for the sides and roof is from the old floor in our house. The flooring was over 100 years old and very damaged but we were able to salvage just barely enough for this project. Before painting, we filled each seam and crevice with caulking. The long strips of wood on both sides work very well for handles to aide in moving the house when we decide to relocate it. Boy…do I like it when my better half decides he wants to build something!! Thanks to him our newest birds are on there way to being spoiled.
